What’s new in Running Tracker 1.7.0?
- Workouts can be saved as XML for backup (File/Save as XML) ; the XML files can also be copied on the iPod and synchronized with the Nike+ website using iTunes
- Minor bugs have been fixed
Running Tracker 1.6.1
Some users have reported a small regression bug in Running Tracker 1.6.0: the workouts’ names and the workouts’ comments can no longer be modified.
Running Tracker 1.6.1 fixes these problems: don’t wait and start it now!
Download it here: http://runningtracker.tuxfamily.org/index.php?title=Download
You can now help the development of Running Tracker by making a small donation to the project:
What’s new in Running Tracker 1.6.1?
- Workouts’ names/comments can be edited again (bug fixed)
- Workouts’ dates/times can be edited
- Translations have been improved
- External libraries have been updated
Edit workouts’ dates/times
The dates/times of the workouts can now be easily modified through the edit window:
Beware that the workouts synchronization with the Nike+ website is based on the date/times of the workouts. So basically, if you edit the date/time of a workout that had been downloaded from the Nike+ website, clicking on synchronize will download this workout *again* and you will have two workouts in your list.
If you have workouts that appear two times in the list:
- Note the date/time of the workout that you want to delete
- Delete the workout that shouldn’t be in the list
- Set the date/time of the remaining workout with the date/time that you wrote down in the first place
Now clicking on synchronize should not download this workout again.
Maintenance update
Running Tracker is going to be updated soon: the maintenance version 1.6.1 is on its way.
Following problems should be solved:
- Workouts names and workouts comments should be editable again (thanks Will for reporting this bug)
- Workouts dates and times should be editable (thanks Pascal for your screenshots)
Running Tracker 1.6.0
It’s been seven weeks since Running Tracker 1.5.0 was released.
What happened during these seven weeks?
- I had nice vacations in China
- Nike+ decided to change their API, which resulted in an incompatibility with Running Tracker
Time to release Running Tracker 1.6.0: don’t wait and start it now!
Download it here: http://runningtracker.tuxfamily.org/index.php?title=Download
What’s new in Running Tracker 1.6.0?
- Edit workouts within Running Tracker
- Add workouts that have not been saved with the Nike+iPod device
- Automatic workouts synchronization with the Nike+ website fixed
Let’s take some time to review the changes:
Edit workouts in Running Tracker
You just ran 10 kilometers. Unfortunately, your iPod indicates only 9.80 kilometers :-/
Just double click on the workout in Running Tracker and edit it ! The distance, the duration and the number of calories can be freely edited:
Add workouts manually
Let’s say you’re on vacations… in China. You want to run but you don’t have your Nike+iPod device. Well, just run then ! When you come back home, open Running Tracker and click File > Add Workout:
Note that these new functionalities come directly from the document shared on Google Docs. You are more than welcome to suggest new features in this document. If you have something in mind, don’t hesitate to add your ideas!
Running Tracker is available in 5 languages: English, German, French, Croatian and Portuguese. If you want to support Running Tracker, you can help for the translations. Just edit the shared document. Add new languages or improve existing translations!
NikePlusEdit.com integration
Since Running Tracker 1.5.0, you can import workouts generated by NikePlusEdit.com
Why would you use this service?
Well I think their website says it all:
If you’re a Nike+ user and missing a run in your Nike+ profile then this site has been built for you. You can create your own files for uploading into Nike+ which are delivered straight to your inbox. You’re not tied to running with your iPod nano anymore.
Basically, if you performed a workout without your Nike+iPod device, you just have to create your own workout file with NikePlusEdit.com and then import it into Nike+/Running Tracker.
How does this work?
- Go to NikePlusEdit.com and fill the following form with your workout details:

- Click on “Send it!”
- Check your email inbox, you should have an e-mail from files@nikeplusedit.com
- Save the attachment (2009-07-22 11;00;00.xml in my case) on your computer
- In Running Tracker, click on File / Add Workout, select the XML file and click Open
The workout has been imported into Running Tracker:
Nike+iPod on Ubuntu
The Nike+iPod is a great device. It sure is. Especially if you have a Microsoft Windows or a Mac OS X operating system.
If you’re using Ubuntu (or any other Linux distribution), you’re stuck ! No iTunes means no possibility to upload your workouts to the Nike+ website.
Fortunately, there are some Nike+ alternatives:
These websites allow you to upload your workouts (as XML files) and then they generate the corresponding graphs. Very convenient for the Linux users.
The only problems are:
- You get a limited history of your workouts
- You must be connected to the internet
Running Tracker offers several advantages:
- Import your Nike+ workouts directly from your iPod and get the corresponding graphs instantaneously
- Compare your workouts and monitor your progression
- Get some interesting statistics about your runs
- Get some overview graphs about your running activities
- Backup your workouts
