Nike+ on Linux

Posted in Software by RunningTracker on the 19 February 2009

The Nike+iPod is a great device. After your run, you just connect your iPod to your computer and iTunes automatically synchronizes your workout with the Nike+ website. Nice !

What if you have Linux ? Well, the problem is that iTunes doesn’t work so well on Linux. There are solutions to install it with Wine but I did never manage to make it synchronize my workouts with the Nike+ website.

With Running Tracker, you can easily import workouts directly from your iPod. Even on Linux. Click on Add workout, then select the location of your last workout and your workout is displayed ! The imported workouts are stored on your computer in a database. It is then easy to backup your data in case something bad happens to your hard drive.

Running Tracker on Mac OS X [Update]

Posted in Software by RunningTracker on the 12 February 2009

Installing Java 1.6 on Mac OS X is not as easy as it should be… the Java version update I was talking about in my previous post is only available for 64-bit Intel-based Mac OS 10.5 or later.

If you have a 32-bit system, you should try to install Soylatte. It’s a Java 1.6 Port for Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5 (Intel). It should allow you to run any Java 1.6 application including Running Tracker.

You want to use Running Tracker on your Mac but you keep getting the following error message when you start the application?

The installed Java Runtime Environment is not supported by Running Tracker.
Please update your JRE.

No problem, you just have to change the preferred Java application version.

In the “Utilities”, expand the “Java” folder and double click on “Java Preferences”:

Utilities

Drag “Java SE 6″ and drop it at the top of the list:

Java Preferences

Now you should be able to start Running Tracker.

PS: Thanks Guillaume for the tip !
